Today on the Gratitude Cafe, Sue is chatting with Lisa Marini, who is a brain health coach. They spent the hour talking about brain health and how to improve your brain health. Lisa is an expert, hosting classes for her clients, on how to improve your life and your brain. 

Your brain runs every part of your life and is arguably the most important organ in your body. It goes into two states, your limbic brain and your thinking brain. Your limbic brain functions while you are in a stress state. While your brain is super smart, it takes stress and reacts the same way as if you are in danger. During this time, you physically cannot be successful or calm. According to Lisa, you need to shift the environment you give our brain to calm it down. Your thought pattern is imperative and the social situations are imperative.

Because of the nature of this year, everyone is on pins and needles right now. You can be stressed out because you are working from home with the kids around or because of circumstances in your life. It is important to protect your brain health and find a calming environment for your brain.

Lisa gives a ton of tips and tricks on helping your brain get back to normal. She mentions that exercise is one of the best things you can do for your brain, because you are using up adrenaline that could come out during that “fight or flight” response. Exercise naturally calms you down.

Here’s an activity that Lisa recommends: close your eyes and think about something you are worried and stressed about. Pay attention to how your body and your emotions are reacting. Notice this limbic response and do an awareness check-up. Check in to where you are feeling these responses.

She also gives some tools for you when you are in this stress state. Recognizing you are in a limbic response and shake your body. Shake it out. Have a dance party. We see this trick in nature and in animals, but it’s not as natural for us. Then, move into a breathing exercise

These excellent tips are not all. Lisa is hosting a six week brain class LIVE that starts January 1st. It is one hour a week for 6 weeks. She does a brain health assessment at the beginning, a couple of check in calls and support. The goal is for people to change their lives and their brain health.
